Emily Rose Ciscato is invited speaker at the 2018 Geobiology Gordon Research Conference
Emily Rose Ciscato, doctoral student of Prof. Derek Vance and Dr. Tomaso Bontognali, presented her research in an invited talk at the 2018 Geobiology Gordon Research Conference in Galveston, Texas.
Emily Rose Ciscato was one of 23 invited speakers at the 2018 Geobiology Gordon Research Conference held 21-26 January 2018 in Galveston, Texas. With more than 300 topic-specific conferences per year, Gordon Research Conferences (GRC) offer a unique opportunity to present and discuss the newest, unpublished, developments at the frontier of the biological, chemical, and physical sciences. That of Geobiology, with a bi-annual occurrence, brings together geochemists, geomicrobiologists, sedimentologists, and Earth system modelers to present and discuss the challenges and most novel tools to understand the co-evolution of life and the environment through time.
The uniqueness of the GRC lies in the intimate yet relaxed environment they create, with a closed number of participants residing in the same hotel for a week, long-format oral presentations followed each by a dedicated discussion time, and non-dispersive poster sessions. This fosters an open and dynamic exchange of ideas, opportunities for long discussions without the rush and pressure experienced at bigger conferences, and the chance for early career researchers to obtain a thorough overview of the developments at the frontier of their field. All the research presented at Gordon Research Conferences remains strictly confidential to the attendees, hence we cannot share all the exciting developments that Emily has learned about during what she describes as an exceptional learning and sharing experience that she highly recommends to researchers at all levels, especially for early career fellows.
The next Geobiology GRC will be held in 2020, with locations and dates still to be announced.
